Maintenance

Some things to keep in mind that will prolong the life of your equipment, reduce repair cost and reduce your energy usage resulting in utility cost savings include:
  • Regularly changing your filters, sign up for a free email reminder by providing us with some basic information on your filtration system.
  • Have your system professional serviced twice a year for savings of up to $35/month according to an EPA study done in conjunction with LSU
  • Keep the outside unit clean during the summer by washing off dirt and grass
  • Check your drain lines every couple of months to be sure the water is flowing properly
  • Check your safety switch on your overflow pan several times a year to be sure it is working properly to avoid potential water leaks.
  • Never start up a heating systems without a proper checkup by a professional. Be sure they check the heat exchanger for leaks, the flue pipe for blockage and that all safety switches are working properly on a gas furnace. This can avoid CO poisoning of your family and fire potentials from a furnace not operating properly. On an electric air handler/heater be sure all safety switches are inspected for proper function and all wiring and connections are in good condition to avoid fire potentials.
  • If a breaker trips find out the reason why - do not just reset it. If there is damage to the bus bar in the electrical box numerous trips can damage it to the point that it has to be replaced, a costly item. If it is tripping due to a short in a wire you have the potential of causing a fire by resetting the breaker.
  • Have an energy saving programmable thermostat installed and properly programmed to reflect how you use your home each season for maximum energy savings.
  • Consider a whole house dehumidifier for Energy Savings and increased comfort.
  • Consider upgrading your equipment to a more Energy Efficient System. According to the EPA studies indicate that a unit that is 8 to 10 years old can be replaced with a more efficient system and the cost recovered in less than 4 years.
